Common Questions About MEND at Pure Family Medicine

What happens if I need inpatient care?

Dr. Workman has relationships with inpatient care facilities that she will refer you to. Like all care outside of our office, this is not included in your MEND membership. During your inpatient stay, Dr. Workman will continue to be a resource for you, will answer your questions via phone and messaging, and will continue to coordinate your care behind the scenes.

Are there any contracts or minimum enrollment periods?

No, we do not lock patients into a contract and you are free to leave at any time. Our minimum billing period for MEND services is every 3 months, and your membership fee is non-refundable once it is paid as it represents a significant investment of time into your care.

Do you accept health insurance?

Yes, your insurance can be used as normal for everything except our membership fee, which cannot be billed through insurance.

Some patients will submit our membership charges to their insurance company for reimbursement or to apply towards their deductible. Please inform us if you would like to do this, and we will prepare the appropriate superbill. Unfortunately, we have no say in your insurance company's decision regarding reimbursement.

You are free to use your insurance on lab testing, imaging, vaccines, and any services received outside our office. Because we do offer low cash pricing, many patients will choose to pay cash on their lab testing and imaging instead of using their insurance to save money, but we are happy to bill your insurance for those tests if you wish.

Do I need to be a member of Pure Family Medicine to join MEND?

Your MEND membership includes membership in Pure Family Medicine's Direct Primary Care program, there is no need to pay a separate membership fee. Dr. Workman will provide your primary care, as well as ongoing eating disorder management.

I just need occasional advice or infrequent care for a well managed eating disorder, do I need to be a MEND member?

Yes, any patient looking to utilize Dr. Workman's specialized care or knowledge would need to join her MEND patient panel. Unfortunately, due to the time and expense involved in maintaining certification as an eating disorder specialist, and the extra time devoted to all of her eating disorder patients, patients not in Dr. Workman's MEND panel will need to be referred to an outside specialist for eating disorder care.
